Maurine Ables Lancaster, 91, passed away Friday, Oct. 26, 2007, in Granbury.
Graveside service: 11 a.m. Tuesday in Acton Cemetery. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Maurine was born Feb. 17, 1916, to Isam and Jennie Ables. She married J.P. "Lefty" Lancaster Dec. 31, 1933, in Decatur. Maurine will be remembered by her son and family as a dedicated Christian who was always willing to serve the Lord in any way she could. Within the body of the church, she served as a Sunday school teacher, youth leader, soprano in the choir and as an artistic illustrator. Her proudest role in life was as a wife, mother and homemaker and she performed that role with great love and considerable skill and imagination.
She demonstrated her patriotism during World War II as a neighborhood defense leader. She served the American Red Cross by meeting troop trains at the Fort Worth Depot, serving coffee and donuts. When her husband, "Lefty" entered another business, she independently operated and managed Lancaster Furniture and Appliances. In doing this, she proved to be a very capable businesswoman. In her later years, with her tremendous recall of names, events and history, she became the family's historian and genealogist. She will be greatly missed by her son, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, relatives and her friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband in 1993; brother, Haskel Ables; and a great-granddaughter, Logan.
Survivors: Son, Dr. Jere Lancaster and wife, Doris of Granbury; grandchildren, Russell Lancaster, Scott Lancaster and Lauren Lancaster Daves; great-grandchildren, Conner, Olivia, Jackson, Nolen and Callen; several nieces and nephews.
