Esther Ann was 12th of 13 children born to James and Millicent (Springer) Whitehead. Her siblings were: Mary S., William, Charles P., John W., Martin Van Buren, Mary Jane (m. William P. Stevens), Josier W., Sarah Ann, Bethierrette, Joseph Davis, Mahala S., and Jula Elen Whitehead.

Her grandparents were James and Sarah (Wood) Whitehead and Micajah and Mary (Rodgers) Springer. Her great grandparents were Joseph and Sarah (Williams) Springer.

She married Arthur Bell on Sept. 30, 1874 and together had two daughters. May was born about 1875 (age 5 on the Fairfield, Tippecanoe, Indiana Census) in Indiana. She does not appear on the 1900 census. Daughter Blanche was born Jan. 1883 - 1884 in Indiana and died in 1945.

Mrs. Esther Bell Succumbs at Home

Mrs. Esther Bell died Friday noon at her home, 1711 Jackson Street, of a complication of diseases following an illness of six months. She was the widow of Arthur Bell, who died in 1904.
Born March 28, 1855, in Lafayette, she had reached the age of 65 years at the time of her death, all of her life being spent in this city with the exception of a number of years in her girlhood when she resided with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Whitehead, on a farm near Dayton. She was married in 1874 to Arthur Bell and the couple came here from Dayton for residence. The deceased was a member of Trinity M. E Church, the Tri-Mu Bible Class and Triumph Rebekah Lodge No. 291. She is survived by a daughter, Miss Blanche Bell of this city, and a brother, J. D. Whitehead, of Weldon, Ill. Neighbors and friends held her in high esteem and will keenly feel her demise.
