THE NEVADA JOURNAL, December 30, 1992. "IRVIN R. BACKOUS. – Sept. 17, 1928, to Dec. 30, 1992. Irvin R. "Bud" Backous, 64, of Nevada died of cancer at Mary Greeley Medical Center, Ames. He was born to George and Clara (Vasey) Backous at Colo. He spent his lifetime in the Nevada area. On Oct. 23, 1952, he married Alice Gluck at Albert Lea, Minn. He worked in the City of Ames Maintenance Department and was also an inspector for the City of Ames. He also worked as a carpenter for 35 years. He retired in 1990. He had served in the U. S. Army and had been a member of the Moose Lodge. Survivors include his wife, Alice, of Nevada; four sons, Dennis of Colo, Mike of Colo, Rod of Nevada and Mark of Lake City; 11 grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Sampson of Nevada and Pat Bakka of St. Joseph, Mich. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services were held Saturday at Cooper-Ryan Funeral Home in Nevada with the Rev. Fred Danforth officiating. Burial was in the Woodland Cemetery at Iowa Center."
