William John Adler was born in May 1858 in Nashville, Davidson County, Tennessee, the son of John Konrad Adler (1837–1910) and Nancy Jane (Dixon) Adler (1843–1903).

William was married 1st on January 14, 1879 in Davidson County to Cassandra E "Cassie" Sloan (1859–1883). He was married 2nd about 1884 to Margaret Elizabeth "Bettie" Dunagan (ca 1865–1908). He was married 3rd about July 1909 as the 2nd husband of Idella Julia "Della" (Garrett) (Nichols) Adler (1880–1945).

A woodworking foreman at the Nashville, Chattanooga and Saint Louis Railroad Shop and living at 919 Monroe Street, he was 72 years old when he had a stroke in the autumn of 1930. He died at home of a cerebral hemorrhage on July 9, 1930. {It is noted that, although the informant on his Death Certificate listed him as a widower, his 3nd wife was still living. However, she wasn't mentioned in his obituary.}

Survivors mentioned in his obituary included daughters Mrs A J Foreit, Mrs Floyd Bennett, Mrs Leon Myatt and Miss Rachel Adler, sons Charles Adler and W G Adler in Nashville and J A Adler and C A Adler of Toledo, Ohio, brothers George A Adler and Robert H Adler and sisters Miss Emma Adler of Nashville, Mrs James Appleton in Kingston Springs and Mrs Hiram Ford of Hartsville.

Funeral Services were held on July 10th at Third Baptist Church, and burial was in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Nashville with Richland Council #16 J.O.U.A.M. in charge of Graveside Services.
