Dock Waddell, 96, retired foreman
Dock Lee Waddell, 96, of Wheelersburg, a former Franklin Furnace resident, died Tuesday, Feb. 25, 1997, at Southern Ohio Medical Center.
Born Dec. 4, 1900, in Elliott County, Ky., a son of the late Alfred Van Waddell and Alice Evelyn Ison Waddell, he was a retired foreman in the brick-mason department of the former Empire-Detroit Steel and a member of the Plymouth Heights Church of the Nazarene in Franklin Furnace.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Bonnie Lee Robinson Waddell, in 1950; his wife, Ella Leona Lewis Shepherd Waddell, Aug. 1, 1989, whom he married March 23, 1951, in Portsmouth.
Surviving are three sons, Leonard Elmer Waddell of New Carlisle, Earl Waddell of Trotwood and Demer [Delmar] Elroy Waddell of Houston, Texas; nine grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren and many great-great-grandchildren.
He also was preceded in death by four brothers, Noah, Oak [Oshie], Taylor and Millard Waddell; and five sisters, Virgie Jackson, June [Jane] Knapp, Florence Lavender, Flo Stewart and Wade [Vada] Sloas.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Harrison Funeral Home in Wheelersburg, with the Rev. Gary Arthurs officiating, and interment in Junior Furnace Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.
