MOTHER OF GASH WILL GET DFC
Mrs. Ann W. Gash, 3255 Pine Street, will receive from Hammer Field offices the Distinguished Flying Cross awarded her son, Major Frank T. Gash, Army Air Forces, after he failed to return from a raid on Paramoshiro Island near the Japanese mainland last September.
She was so notified today in a letter from Colonel John H. Wilson, chief of staff of the 9th Service Command, Fort Douglas UT., which declared the "extraordinary achievements of your son are a source of inspiration.
"His outstanding courage, ability and devotion to duty must provide comfort and pride to you now," the letter said. "It was a source of inspiration to me to learn of your son's extraordinary achievements in action against the enemy.
"The commanding officer at Hammer Field has been directed to present the medal to you. He will communicate with you in a short time."
Gash led the army bombing raid on Paramoshiro , is second bombing attack on Japan, shortly after being elected vice president of the Bombed Japan Club.
The war department announced his as missing in action when American fliers reported seeing his bomber shot down by a Japanese Zero.

MOTHER OF WAR HERO MISSING IN ACTION RECEIVE MEDAL
Mrs. Ann W. Gash 3255 Pine Street, attempted to respond when the citations for her son, Major Frank T. Gash were read by Major Frank Millard a member of Kirksey's staff at Hammer Field.
"I AM PROUD"
"I am proud my son has received the Distinguished Flying Cross, given me in his name today," Mrs. Gash said. "I will treasure it always."
She was led to the field by Major J. F. Johnson, base adjutant, while planes droned overhead and a bomber squadron paraded under gray and lowering skies.
Gash received the cross for leading squadrons of heavy bombers against the Kornies and Japanese installments on Paramushiro on August 11th and September 11th. He did not return from the second raid.
The citation commending Gash for "extraordinary achievement and heroism in an aerial fight." declared the commander. "This officer's plane was disabled in enemy fire but the guns of his plane continued to fire after his plane had struck the water and broken up."
Gash's last raid came only a few days after he had been elected vice president of the "I Bombed Japan Club" formed by American aviators. A Fresno High School graduate, he attended the Fresno State College. A brother, Russell W. Gash is a naval lieutenant.
