Funeral services for Mr. Ruben Hargis, 101, of Hanging Limb, were conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, May 3, 2004, from the chapel of Goff Funeral Home in Monterey.
Burial was in Hanging Limb Cemetery with Rev. Elmer McCowan and Rev. Ovle Tinch officiating.
Mr. Hargis died Saturday, May 1 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. He was a timber worker, a farmer, a member of Calvary Freewill Baptist Church in Hanging Limb, and a member of Green Pond Masonic Lodge 703.
Born March 19, 1903, in Overton County, he was the son of the late Calvin and Mary Ann (Key) Hargis. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Bertha (Sisco) Hargis; his second wife, Ruth (Johnson) Hargis; a daughter, Pauline Reed; and three sons, Homer Hargis, Charles Hargis, and Clyde Hargis.
Survivors include three daughters, Juanita Reed of Hanging Limb, Geneva Simpson of Wallens Creek, KY, and Betty Cleghorn of Algood; three sons, Otis Hargis of Hanging Limb, Claude Hargis of Cookeville, and Danny Hargis of Monterey; 28 grandchildren; 56 great grandchildren; and 34 great-great grandchildren.
