Buddy was an abandoned puppy, a Basset who caught his own food, lived in the culverts and was as skinny as a rail, with this big head and a heart on his forehead shaped into his fur.

On March 15,1998 as I was retrieving some items out of my suburbon vehicle, the drivers door was open and I was in the back behind the drivers seat. There was a Bassett bark and in the front passenger seat was this skinny dog with this big head, smilling back at me, nearly starverd to death.

Buddy came into our family, with Tazzy and Spot Crain. It did not take long for Buddy to acquire more food and then some; he grew to a very large (wide) dog, eventually loosing his weight to a lot of walking everywhere, that he loved and I followed along behind. "Hey, who was walking who?"

Wherever I went, driving or walking, Buddy was always with me. Car rides, the widow on the passenger side had to be down, snow, heat and rain when he pulled his head back in from outside the window, he was soaking wet. Then he would come over to me and shake himself off while I was driving.

Always wanting to be petted, he is loyal a little sneaky around food and those big sad eyes. Buddy gave Tazzy and Spot a run for there food.

Finally, one night while I was watching the stars through a telescope, the dogs were playing in the backyard and they would come to me and I would reached down and pat them on the head without looking. I patted Tazzy, Spot, Buddy and a fourth. Hmm...who was that, I looked out in the yard and they were playing with a skunk! Naturally I went inside and one by one they came into the house through the doggie door. Ooops- so did the skunk. Gave him the treat that everyone else got and away he went. Thank goodness.

Buddy sadly developed cancer of the spleen and liver and today bravely and quietly, still ready to go for a walk-passed away in the front passenger seat of the car at 1:00 P.M. Sunday March 03, 2013 ( 14 yrs. 2 mo. 8 dys.)a holy/religous day for an ANGEL to fly and test his wings.

In his memory, later I walked our favorite trail that he so enjoyed, clutching his collar. I will never walk the trails again since all of the dogs are now in heaven.

You are a funny, loving little dog with a BIG HEART, YOU ARE MY LASSIE! Clay paw prints were made that morning, what a treasure he is. Sitting here this morning looking back, I calculated the number of days Buddy was with me by the total cost to feed, care of him all of these years and generally came up with $2.654 per day of happiness. Such a low price to pay for such a thrill ride from God.

Thank you Buddy, for all of the love and memories to fill my days that are left. From a Father to His Son, I Love You!
KitKat has been looking for you…

Only two weeks after your death and 15 years to the day and hour after you came to me, jumping into my Suburbon and sitting in the front seat with the gruffled bark, looking at me, another Beagle has come to me after I said a prayer on the way home that eventful morning of your anniversary into my life.

With tears streaming down my cheeks, I said openly to God, "If there is a dog out there like Buddy, who needs a home, I'll do everything in my power to do my best."

Twenty minutes later as I sat in front of my home with the drivers door open and I was in the back getting my gear out, I heard some noise, a gruffled bark and there in the passenger seat sat a Beagle, nearly identicle to Buddy.

Searching for the owner for four days, no one had ever seen this dog before. I even tried to chase him off and he returned to the front door. Now he is a permanent member of the family and his name is Snoopy!I don't believe in coincidences, I believe this was fate...

In another twist of fate or faith, December 26, 2013 while outside with Snoopy a car stopped in the street and a man exited, yelling Buddy come here! Snoopy bolted from the yard and gleefully was all over the man.

Come to find out, the man was the owner of Snoopy (Buddy) that had come into my life after my Buddy had died and after the prayer.

So with curiousity I found out, Snoopy lived down the road and had taken off, jealous of another dog the man had acquired to be a companion for Snoopy and there on his phone were the pictures to prove it. Additionally, the dog that I called Snoopy was called Buddy by the previous owner. So the man said obviously he is very happy and lots of room to run, keep him, He's Yours! Now what are the chances that I would acquire another dog right after praying that looks like mine, Beagle and answers to the name of Buddy?

Not one to accept everything on the word of of a human, I did some checking and found out Snoopy a.k.a. Buddy was actually dumped by this guy. So who do you think got the better deal, the dumper...Snoopy...Me? Snoopy! He's safe, warm, has his own chair and plenty of food, water and love.

Is there a God? You better believe there is!

My Buddy was taken upon his death to Anthony Eddy's Wildlife Studio in Slater, Mo., because I just could not bury or cremate this little guy as I have in the past. Therefore, I had him preserved-Freeze Dried. This process does not strip the hide off, but stabilizes the body to where everything is intacked and the moisture in the body is slowly removed, so he is still the same and positioned in a setting to allow him to look natural.

On June 16, 2014 Buddy was brought home and now sleeps in his favorite location, just as before.

When I die, Buddy will be placed on my chest with my arm around him, as he sleeps.

I believe this writing sent to Buddy by GeorgiaCa is most appropriate for all of our friends;

"I have done mostly what men do, And pushed it out of my mind; But I can't forget, if I wanted to, Four-Feet trotting behind. Day after day, the whole day through Wherever my road inclined-- Four-Feet said, 'I am coming with you!' And trotted along behind. Now I must go by some other round-- Which I shall never find-- Some where that does not carry the sound Of Four-Feet trotting behind."~Rudyard Kipling
