The following information comes from paperwork Mary Jane Schuyler Goodspeed sent in to First Families of America in 1920 for them to include in one of their Volumes. The book company then sold the original paperwork in batches years ago and we purchased a large batch. Luckily amongst the yellowed and crinkling papers we found this paper of my great great grand aunt.

Mary Jane listed her father Philip Isaac Schuyler as a "merchant"

She married William Goodspeed (1820-1916) in May 22 1861. They celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary a week before he passed away. He was born the 10th of November 1830 and died in 1916. William was the son of Benjamin Franklin Goodspeed and Almira Parker Goodspeed of New York.

William was division Supt of the Erie RR. The couple settled in Paterson, New Jersey after their marriage where they made their home ever since.

Three children were born of the union:

1. Benjamin Franklin Schuyler Goodspeed born May 10, 1863. He attended the Paterson Seminary and married on April 8, 1889 Jane Wilson Pearson whose parents were Annie Hume and James Pearson. I may be reading this incorrectly but it appears that she lists 2 children of this marriage—1. James Pearson Schuyler Goodspeed born August 14, 1890 who left Princeton University in his senior year to enlist when the war broke out and was assigned to the transport division of the quartermaster's corps. James was an aviation student at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and died from meningitis following influenza October 7, 1918. He would have received his commission in about two weeks.

2. Franklin Pearson Schuyler Goodspeed who was in the army Air Force.

They lived at 344 West Seventy Second in Paterson New Jersey.

3. Hattie Schuyler Goodspeed Muzzy born February 2, 1865 in Paterson, New Jersey who married Henry Muzzy who died at the age of 81 May 20, 1939. His father's name was Henry Muzzy as well. They all lived in Paterson, New Jersey at 414 Broadway with the following children

a. Marjorie Schuyler Muzzy Horn. Her father left her his automobile and free use of the home at 414 Broadway in Paterson, New Jersey until the premises could be sold. Her father also left her half of his residuals estate to her and the other half in equal shares to his two sons

b. Henry Earle Muzzy of Lake Forest, Illinois ( he was in the service but can't read it)

c. Franklin Goodspeed Muzzy of Hillsdale, New Jersey who was named sole executor of his father's estate. He was also in the service.

Who had a daughter Sally Muzzy who married Pell William Foster III of Englewood who was a graduate of Princeton and served in WWII with the Army Air Force in the Pacific Theater.

4. Anna Louise Goodspeed who was born August 29, 1873 She was unmarried and lived with her parents when this document was prepared in Mary's handwriting and lived at 414 Broadway, Paterson, New Jersey. Henry Muzzy left to his sister-in-law Anna Louise Goodspeed $300.00 "as a token of esteem and appreciation for many years of kindness and thoughtfulness to me." Edit I have also seen her as Mary Louise Goodspeed.

An obituary from The Morning Call -Paterson, New Jersey April 6, 1921 Wednesday on page 16–reports
