Please Beware—the lineage in American Ancestry is incorrect Isaac Schuyler. If one will follow this line from father to son, it is documented back to Philip Pieterse Schuyler and his parents. I have spent at least 65 years researching our lineage using primary source material and I can safely say that it is absolutely correct.

Isaac was a farmer and a merchant in the Schuyler Basin (Pompton Valley) in New Jersey; and in New York. Reverend Schenk lists Isaac as "a merchant in New York and also Schuyler Basin, New Jersey

Isaac and Elizabeth Jones Schuyler were married Feb. 22, 1823 (see document attached)

Their children were:

3 Nicholas b Sep 13, 1825 m. Margaretta Norton Jan 28, 1849
4 Catharine b Aug 10, 1828 was baptized in New York, New York October 19, 1828. She married Richard Colfax Dec 22, 1847 at Pompton, NJ His parents were George Washington Colfax and Eliza Colfax. Catharine died April 17, 1849 at Pompton -age 20 years.
5 Philip Isaac II b 1833 again (survived) died March 25, 1900. OUR LINE.
6 Elizabeth b 1839 m Harry Robert Chatterton b 1827 d April 24, 1872
7 Mary Jane b March 17, 1840 d April 5, 1921 m William Goodspeed May 30, 1862 William Goodspeed b 1830 d 1916 s/o Benjamin Franklin Goodspeed

On April 12th 1847 a town meeting was held at Preakness, New Jersey to establish a new township Wayne. Isaac Schuyler and Henry Doremus were "Chosen Freeholders." It was worth noting that the second largest item in the budget voted that first day was $500.00 for maintenance and support of the poor.
In handwritten records where Mary Jane was compiling her lineage she lists her birthplace as New York and her father as Merchant. Here she calls her father P. Isaac Schuyler and her mother as Elizabeth Jones Schuyler with four siblings listed as "dead." Nicholas, Elizabeth, Catherine, and Philip. This was a page she submitted for First Families of America. The page lists her ascendency but the date of submission is uncertain however the page was stamped as "deceased April 5, 1921."
It is marked widow and her husband William Goodspeed died in 1916 s/o Benjamin Franklin Goodspeed
It appears the family must have left NJ for NY between the years of 1833 and 1839 because Mary Jane was born there in 1840.
In the Manhattan City Directory 1839-1840 there is an Isaac Schuyler listed at 51 Cortlandt house 737 Greenwich. Occupation: Flour.
In the City directory of 1850 he is still there.
He died in Wayne Township, though.
Perhaps he had two homes.

Isaac was born on January 7, 1799, a year before George Washington died. Isaac lived during the presidential terms of John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, James Monroe, John Quincy Adams, Andrew Jackson, Martin Van Buren, Wm Henry Harrison, John Tyler and James Polk.
Isaac was 5 when Lewis and Clark went west. He was 15 when the British burned the White House. He was 27 when Thomas Jefferson and John Adams both died July 4th 1826. He was 37 when the Alamo fell to the Mexicans in Texas 1836. He was 45 when the first message was sent over the telegraph in 1844, in 1845 Texas was annexed and in 1846 the US Congress declared war against Mexico which ended in 1847. Then came the California Gold Rush and the 49'ers and Isaac and Elizabeth say goodbye to their son Nicholas as he heads to the gold fields. Isaac died at the age 62, 8 months after Fort Sumter was fired upon April 12, 1861 signaling the beginning of the Civil War however the divisiveness and struggles of the nation had been rocking it's foundation for years.

In the death record it relates that Isaac died of apoplexy on Christmas Eve, 1861 age 62 and as being married at the time, not widowed. His parent is listed as Philip Schuyler. His birth place is Schuyler Basin, NJ.
