"Uncle Al," as he was familiarly known, immigrated to Macon Co., Missouri, in 1839, and lived in that county for 67 years. He came west a little over a year ago and settled on a homestead where he lived up to the time of his death.

He entered the civil war as a volunteer in Co. H, 42nd Missouri infantry, a robust young man but contracted diseases there that left him a physical wreck. He was married twice, both companions having passed into the great beyond. Besides an elder brother and younger sister he leaves four half brothers and several children.
