Ruby was born at home in Taylor county on January 8, 1932, to Edgar and Bessie (Patterson) Crew. Ruby attended school in Abilene. She was sixteen when she met the love of her life, James Thompson. They married on July 24, 1948 and spent the next 63 years together.
She went to work at Timex then Gibson department store as the warehouse manager, shipping and receiving manager, and buying agent. She enjoyed her trips to "Market" for Gibson's. She retired in 1980 and they moved to north east Runnels County. Where she helped James with his herd of cattle.
She loved to read mystery books, gardening, yard work, and in later years to travel. She had a very dry sense of humor and was known to not hold back and tell you how it was. She was relentless in card games being extremely competitive. Her favorite role was being mom, and grandmother. She and James were known as being very generous and in true West Texas fashion, they never turned anyone away that was in need. She was a faithful member of the Lawn Church of Christ.
She is survived by son, Tony Thompson and wife Diane of Clyde; daughter, Sherry Aldridge and husband Lanny of Goldsboro; grandchildren Curry Aldridge and wife Shana, Ryan Aldridge and wife Liz, and Seth Thompson and fiancé Kayce. She is also survived by five great-grandchildren, Reese, Cade, Abigail, Colton, and James and numerous cousins and friends.
