Jesse Whitney Finch was born on January 9, 1825 in Perry County, Tennessee. He was the 12th of 16 children born to William "Billy" and Mary G "Polly" (Roberts) Finch. Both of his parents were born in the Carolina's, and they moved to Tennessee about 1811.
Jesse was married about 1848 to a woman by the name of Mary. Not much is known about her, other than that she was born about 1824 in North Carolina and was a mother to at least on of Jesse's children: Nancy. Nancy was born about March 1849 probably in Decatur County, Tennessee. Nancy was deceased by 1860, and so was Mary.
About 1857, Jesse moved from Tennessee to Greene County, Missouri. He married on October 19, 1859 Pheobe Jane Lamb. In 1860, they are living in Jackson Township, Greene County, Missouri with one son named James.
James was born about 1858, and was deceased by the 1870 census. It is not sure who the mother of James was, but it may have been Mary.
Jesse served in the Civil War on the Union Side. He served first in the Greene/Christian County, MO Home Guard as a private and later in the 72nd Regiment Enrolled MO Militia, company E as a corporal.
Jesse and Pheobe had ten children together: William, Sarah, Martha, John, Robert, Thomas, Perry, Monrow, Albert, and Cora.
Jesse died on March 15, 1891 in Jackson Township, Greene County, MO, near Strafford.
Pheobe died on March 8, 1928 in Strafford, Greene County, MO (please see her memorial).
