WILLIAM 'BILLY' FINCH, according to the 1850 Decatur County, Tennessee Census, states that he was born in South Carolina. No evidence to that fact. (See the Note below). He might be the William Finch born 1781 in Suffield, Hartford, Connecticut to Revolutionary Soldier William Finch and wife Mary Huxley. He lived in Caldwell County, Kentucky and died about 1855 in Decatur County, Tennessee, which had been taken from Perry County in 1845. He was also on the 1830 Perry County, Tennessee census as well. He married MARY G. 'POLLY' ROBERTS with the consent of her father, EVAN ROBERTS, on 17 November 1809 in Caldwell County, Kentucky. MARY was born 1792 in Laurens County, South Carolina according to the same census and records located in said county as well. She lived with her son, George, in Decatur County, Tennessee after Billy died. She died before the 1870 census in Red River County, Texas. She is the daughter of EVAN ROBERTS and wife, MARTHA WALKER. See the note below.

NOTE: The book, "Finch Families of Dixie, 300 years" by Ruby Finch Thompson has Billy the son of John Finch and Janey Keene in Spartanburg County, South Carolina. This has been proven to be incorrect. In 1828, Jane Keen Finch had sued her son, Thomas Finch, for trying to defraud her of her rights as the only child of James Keen, who died 14 February 1826. Jane said her husband, John, died between the death of her father and her filing the law suit. Rebecca Finch, widow of Thomas' twin brother, William, deceased, joined the suit on behalf of her children: James K., age 19; Eleanor, age 14; Evaline, age 10 and William, age 5. William Finch and Rebecca Willingham married December 12, 1792 in Halifax County, Virginia.

CHILDREN OF BILLY and POLLY are:
John Washington Finch born 1811 in Kentucky; Mary Finch born 1813; Martha "Patsy" Finch born 1813; Thomas Finch born 1815; Eleanor "Ellen" Finch born 1817; Sarah born 7 December 1819; Daniel Franklin Finch born 1821; David Bryant Finch born 1821; Robert E(van) Finch born 1823; Richard Finch born 1823; Jesse Whitney Finch born 9 January 1825; James Sydney "Jim" Finch born 19 September 1827; Elizabeth Finch born 1829; Edward ' Ned' Finch born in 1829; William Finch born 1831; and George Washington Finch born 15 October 1833 in Perry County, Tennessee.
Note: Patsy is a nickname for Martha. Polly is a nickname for Mary.
