Andrew J. Catchings was born about 1826 in Tennessee to Meredith Catchings, Jr. and Nancy Burford Catchings. His siblings were: Benjamin Catchings; Meredith Catchings III; and Milly Catchings. In 1859 he married Elizabeth Pearson (not to be confused with Jurushia Alexander) in Franklin County, Tennessee. He appears in the same county in the 1850 and 1860 US census for Franklin County, TN. Around 1867 he moved to Bastrop County, Texas. He and Nancy had 5 known children: John; Nancy J; David C.; J. Frank; and Andrew.

It is believed he died sometime after 1891 as all records of him end then. His burial place is unknown but most likely he died and is buried in the Red Rock area of Bastrop County, Texas. He is probably buried at the Old Red Rock Cemetery as there are numerous Catchings buried there.

NOTE: there is a photo on various sites identifying a man as "John Andrew Catchings". It is NOT Andrew J. Catchings nor is it any Catchings. (I have the incorrect photo in my possession and the people are Smiths.) At this time, there is NO known photo of Andrew J. Catchings.
