Elias Downing, Pioneer Farmer, Dies at Home

Elias downing, 76, who lived on a small farm north of the city, died at the family home at 3:40 o'clock this morning, following a lingering illness. He had been a resident of this section of Kansas and Northern Oklahoma, since 1879. He moved from this city to Newkirk, in 1903 and after several years residence there, moved back to Arkansas City. He was a retired farmer, and well known in this city and Kay County.

The widow and the following children survive: Frank E. and Dr. C. M. Downing of this city; and O. L. Downing, of Newkirk. Mr. Downing was a member of the Odd Fellows at Newkirk.

Funeral services are to be held at 1:30 o'clock tomorrow afternoon in the Grant Funeral Home. Dr. G. H. Cosper, pastor of the First M. E. Church, will officiate. Burial will be made in the Mount Vernon cemetery, near Udall, this county, where the family resided in the early days of Cowley County.
