PLAINVIEW — Former St. Peter streets and parks superintendent Silas Q. Getty, 98, of Plainview died Thursday, Jan. 28, 1999, at Hillcrest Community Care Center in Plainview.
Services were Monday at Schad and Zabel Funeral Home, Plainview. Burial will be at a later date in Decoria Cemetery, rural Beauford.
Mr. Getty was born Aug. 25, 1900, to James and Hattie (Cramer) Getty at Mankato. He attended a country school near Beauford and was a student for one year at Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis. He married Florence Rader Feb. 27, 1927, at Decoria Church, Beauford. After he moved to St. Peter, he was employed by the State of Minnesota Highway Department for 15 years. A former superintendent of streets and parks, he was employed by the City of St. Peter for more than 40 years. He retired in 1975.
Mr. Getty is survived by one son, Garold of Cottage Grove; one daughter, Jean Fischer of Rochester; seven grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and one sister.
He was preceded in death by his wife and one great-grand- daughter. Mankato Free Press, 2/29/1999.
