Collie Clarence Rutledge, Jr.

GARLAND, TX -- Collie Clarence Rutledge, Jr. was called home to rest on November 5th after a lengthy battle with Parkinsonism. Born July 25, 1922 in Shreveport, LA where he was in the ROTC and graduated from Byrd High School. He graduated from Texas A&M University with a BSEE degree after WWII service in the Marine Air Corps from 1943 to 1945. As a Marine fighter pilot, he flew Corsairs from U.S.S. Bennington carrier and saw action at Okinawa, Iwo Jima and over Japan. Following his degree at Texas A&M he returned to work briefly at United Gas Co. in Shreveport, then returned to Texas to join the company that built the planes he had flown in combat, Chance Vought, where he was assigned on electrical installation design on F7V-3, F4V-5, and AV-1. Next he joined Temco Aircraft but continued flying with the organized reserves at Naval Air Station of Dallas in Corsairs and F9F Cougars. During his 36-1/2 years of increasingly responsible assignments with the many corporate name changes of the Defense Corporation, Collie retired as Senior Program Manager from E-Systems, Inc., Greenville, TX in 1987, where he had responsibilities on such aircraft as Air Force I and II and the President's Gulf Stream Executive Aircraft. He was a Master Mason, served as president of E-Systems Management Club, was Jr. and Sr. Warden of St. David's Episcopal Church Vestry and president SGHS Booster Club. He has been involved with Scouting, Little League & Pee-Wee Football. He and his widow, Dorothy Jean, have been residents of Garland, TX 43 yrs. and he was cared for in Senior Care at Lakepointe the last four yrs. He is also survived by his mother, Clyde E. Rutledge of Shreveport, LA; his daughter, Collene Beasley; granddaughter, Kristina Beasley of Garland, TX; son, Rick & wife, Bougena Oakes Rutledge and grandchildren, Ricky & Lauren of Edmond, OK; Eloise Jackson, Woodrow Jackson, Jr. of Shreveport, LA, Robert & Elaine Jackson of Plano, TX, Marilyn Arrant of Houston, TX, Jay Rutledge of Nashville, TN, Susan Johnson of Jackson, MS, Rebecca Ladner of Pass Christian, MS, Charles Porter of MO, Leo Jarnigan, Houston, TX; numerous other nieces, nephew and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Collie, Sr. his brother, Jack; three uncles, two aunts, and a nephew.

Services will be Thursday, 1:30 p.m. at St. David's Episcopal Church, 2022 Saturn Rd., Garland, TX, with Fr. Ray Jennison officiating. Military honors to follow at Restland in Dallas.
