Laura was the daughter of William Anthon and Mary Margaret Fritter Anthon; and sister of Nettie Anthon Turner and Carrie Anthon Robertson. She was married to Edward Spath until his death in 1925. Their children were Madeline and Edward.

Laura and other members of the Spath family were active at the Hampden Baptist Church.

In 1931, Laura married a widower and longtime Hampden resident named Robert F. Williams.
