John C. Bruggeman, 91, of Rock Island, passed away Monday, February 8, 2021 at his home. Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. (noon) Friday, February 12, 2021 at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 3030 7th Ave., Rock Island. Face masks and social distancing are required. Capacity limits will be monitored. Private burial with military honors will be in Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. Memorials may be made to the Marshall Research Fund (BP) for the autoimmune disease, Bullous Pemphigoid.

John was born on March 9, 1929 in Farmington, Iowa, a son of Carl Wilhelm and Ruth Magdaline (Kutcher) Bruggeman. He proudly served his country during the Korean War in the U.S. Army and earned several service medals. John married Marjorie E. Starr on July 11, 1953 in Chicago. She preceded him in death on February 6, 2009. He worked as a broadcast engineer at WQAD for 30 years. John was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, East Moline. He enjoyed camping, fishing, watching television, and eating at buffets and restaurants.

Those left to cherish John’s memory include his children, Carl Bruggeman, Moline, David Bruggeman, Matherville, Beth Westmoreland, Adrian, Missouri, and Marc Bruggeman, Minooka, Illinois; grandchildren, Denise Bruggeman, Joseph Bruggeman, Damian Bruggeman, Carl Adrian Bruggeman, Amanda Hicks, John Norris, Amy Kaul, and Diedre Dockum; and several great grandchildren.

John was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie; parents; brother, Carl Dean Bruggeman; and sister, Carolyn Thayer.
