Lois Martineau Kartchner, 91, died at the home of her daughter, Ila Tenney, in St. David on Saturday, November 3, 2001. Services will be held at the St. David Chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Saturday, November 10, 2001 at 10:00 a.m., with a viewing from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.

Mrs. Kartchner was born to Charles Henry Martineau and Florence Whetten in Colonia Garcia, Mexico, on September 27, 1910. She had lived in this area for over 80 years. She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was honored as Arizona Mother of the Year in 1968, and she and her husband were recipients of the Family Living Award from Brigham Young University in 1974.

Lois was preceded in death by her husband, James A. Kartchner. Survivors include nine sons and three daughters: Mark (Marion) of Tucson; Max (Dona), Dean (Joanne), and Fred (Beverly) of Benson; Ila (Gerald) Tenney, Glen (Dixie), Rex, Paul (Sue), and Shella (Rob) Brubaker, all of St. David; Dale (Elizabeth) of Amarillo, Texas; Ruth (Jerry) Brimhall of Bagdad, Arizona; and Steven (Salie) of Hereford, Arizona. She is also survived by 82 grandchildren and 92 great-grandchildren; as well as six brothers and five sisters.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made out to the J.A. Kartchner Memorial Scholarship Fund at St. David Schools, P.O. Box 70, St. David, Arizona 85630 or to the Perpetual Education Fund of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
