Born April 22, 1932, in Mercersburg, PA he was a son of the late Clarence and Grace (Keefer) Atherton.
Frank attended school in the Corner. He was a former employee of Heisey's Orchards, and worked for Martin-Marietta of Pinesburg, MD for 16 years. Frank retired from PennDOT following 29 years of service.
He was a US Army veteran of the Korean Conflict.
Frank enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and spending time with his grandson, Derek Piper, whom he helped to raise.
He was a member of American Legion Post #517, Mercersburg.
Surviving are his wife, Rachael E. (Moats) Atherton, whom he married July 6, 1983. A daughter, Sharyn K. (James) Wolfe and grandson, Derek A. Piper all of Little Cove. Frank was preceded in death by four siblings, Lottie Robinson, Mary Clever, Alice Hensen, and Amos Atherton.
A private funeral service will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be at Union Cemetery, McConnellsburg.
