Regina, our firecracker, entered her eternal life on Tuesday, January 26, 2021. She passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family and friends. Though her life was cut short, her spirit will be carried on by her four children; Rainie, Skyler, Sophia and Gabriel; Her brother, David; Her father, David; And an extended family of relations and friends from every walk of life. Recently the family suffered another tragedy with the loss of Mauricia in November. Even though this family is still healing, the light is pushing through. In the end Regina was reunited with her mother, Mauricia, in heaven. She was born in Abilene Texas, to Mauricia and David, on December 15, 1976. Regina and David were told at a young age, by Mauricia, that they would be each other’s best friend one day and she wasn’t wrong. Even through the times they drive you crazy, brothers and sisters become one of the most important relationships in your life. They’ve been with you through fights over things, family, relationships, and most of your major life events. No matter what happened, it never changed how deep their love was for each other. David is Regina’s brother, her rock, and she was his. Throughout his life she always gave him important advice, even when he didn’t want to hear it. She always had his back no matter what and never hesitated to try (emphasis on try) to put him in his place. We all could imagine Regina saying to David, “You and I are brother and sister forever. Always remember that if you fall, I will pick you up. As soon as I finish laughing.” Her proudest achievement was her role as a mother to four wonderful kids. She treasured her children and embraced every moment with them. They all were incredibly close and had a bond like no other. She was their best friend. Skyler says, “She always made sure that we knew how much she loved us”. Sophia cherishes the bond they had and expresses, “she was my absolute best friend, we would always kiss each other’s forehead and boop each other’s noses”. She was amazing and Gabe says, “super stubborn in the best way.” Regina will be remembered by her children as a beautiful light who illumined, inspired, and guided her family to lead happy joy-filled lives. Her infectious enthusiasm and love nourished and guided us all. Rarely do members of one family grow up in one place and she understood that true family is not always bound by blood. That’s how she became a sister to some, a second mom to many, aunt to several, and a friend to all. She took charge of all those titles not only because she could handle the weight, but because she had so much love to give. She helped raise more than just her children, she helped shape the lives of many. Her nephews would strongly agree that they are who they are today because of her. She took care of them, provided motherly love, and helped raise them. Those moments meant so much to them and they will be forever grateful. Regina’s friends and family too numerous to list but not forgotten, all knew how strong she was. Rainie would say, “‘My mom was the strongest woman I’ve ever met. She wasn’t afraid of anyone or anything.” Throughout her trials and tribulations, she continued to be a beaming presence in all our lives. She fought hard and continued to until her body couldn’t fight anymore. That strength is inspiring to us all. Regina had the natural gift of humor. If she wasn’t on the verge of making you cry from laughter, she was at least making you smile. She was a delightful handful, full of spunk and sarcasm. We were blessed to have learned many valuable lessons from Gina. No one, not a single soul, would want for comfort while she had a say in the matter. You could depend on her. You still can. All these qualities have been passed on to her children, so her moral insight, humor, and strength of character will live on for a very long time. Regina will be fondly remembered by family and friends. All whom loved her dearly will never forget her tenacity, wit, charm, grace (when pertinent), undying love, and caring for them.
