Arthur Tolbert, a resident of Ashland for 22 years prior to moving to McAlester in 1943, died in a local nursing home Saturday. Born Nov. 25, 1882, in Franklin County, Ark., he was 97 years of age. Tolbert was a farmer-stockman prior to retirement. Tolbert was married in 1905 in Ozark, Ark., to Ida Accord who preceded him in death May 29 of this year. Funeral services will be in 10 a.m. Tuesday in Hillcrest Baptist Church, of which he was a member. Rev. Woodrow Cain will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Hill cemetery under the direction of Mills Funeral home. Pallbearers will be Bob Thomas, Loyd Perteet, Tommy Taylor, Bill Chapman, Olen Russell, and Emerson Virden. Honorary pallbearers: Harley Mahones, Joe Mullins, Farris Kendrick, Buster Jones, Foy Roberts, Bob Sanders, and Henry Traut. Tolbert and his family moved to Ashland from Ozark, Ark., in 1921. His home in McAlester was at 39 West Apache Avenue. Survivors include five sons, Howard Tolbert, Rufus Tolbert, and Sid Tolbert, all of McAlester, Venoid Tolbert of Laton, Calif., and Vernon Tolbert of Campbell, Calif.; seven daughters, Claudia Gough of Fresno, Calif., Otha Keith of Ozark, Effie Roberts, Beatrice Buckner, Pauline Allen, and Mina Chastine, all of McAlester, and Mable Batts of Kiowa; 17 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren. A daughter, Geraldine, preceded him in death on Sept. 25, 1972.
