Carrie Katherine (Shelby) Anderson passed from this life, at her home, on Wednesday, January 27, 2021, after a brief illness.
Graveside Funeral services will be Monday, February 1, 2021 at Fairlawn Cemetery at 1:00 p.m. and arrangements have been entrusted to the family care of Carter- Smart Funeral Directors
Katherine was born January 28, 1924 in Comanche, OK. to Noah and Ethel Shelby. Her childhood was spent learning to cook, sew, and can with her mother. Her father taught Katherine that there is not a job a woman cannot do. Having spent her young childhood through the great depression, she learned the value of hard work. She carried this determination all throughout her life, teaching generations her never tiring work ethic. Katherine married Bill Anderson on June 28, 1940. Together, they raised 4 children (Linda Maddox of Yukon, OK; Billy Don of Comanche, OK; Kay Ledford of Comanche, Ok; Danny Ray of Wichita Falls, TX). They were married for 60 years before Bill's passing in 2001. Katherine was the matriarch of our family; the glue that held generations together. Her skills and recipes were handed down and taught to multiple generations and she will live on through them. Katherine always delighted in having a house full of family and friends eating, visiting, canning and sewing together - she never spent a day without a visitor. Her home was the daily gathering place - her door was open to all. Always the optimist, she encouraged her family to stay on the right path.
Katherine was preceded in death by her siblings - Maxine Wright, Virginia Gilmore, Vinita Vails, Bud Shelby and Burl Shelby.
"Granny" is survived by her 4 children and her sister in-law Doris Shelby. Her grandchildren - Gail Rutherford, Tina Walker, Brenda Smith, Roy Maddox, Christi Anderson, Mindi Anderson, Audie Anderson, Nick Anderson, Heath Anderson, Travis Partee, Josh Hegseth, and Lindsey Lafferty.
She is also survived by 23 great grandchildren and 24 great-great grandchildren. As well as numerous nieces and nephews.
