She was born Jan. 25, 1934, in Wilsonville, the daughter of Odesseas and Argirio Papadopoulos Theodorakis. She married Ken DeFrates on Sept. 10, 1961, in Jacksonville, and he survives.
She is also survived by one daughter, Melanie Smith of Jacksonville; one son, Aaron (Esmeralda) DeFrates of Naperville; and three grandchildren, Bailey Ann Campbell of Jacksonville, and Joshua Kenneth DeFrates and Benjamin Joseph DeFrates, both of Naperville. She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Katrina McLaughlin; and one brother, George Theodorakis.
Mrs. DeFrates was a 1952 graduate of Davenport (IA) High School. She then received her undergraduate degree from Illinois College before earning a Master’s Degree from Sangamon State University in Springfield. She was employed at Jacksonville Developmental Center as a Mental Health Administrator for 26 years. She had also worked as a Night Supervisor at Passavant Area Hospital and in the Oncology Department at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield. Later, she served as a Registered Nurse for the DD Homes in Jacksonville. She had been a member of Northminster Presbyterian Church and was currently attending Centenary United Methodist Church. Anna enjoyed baking for family and friends, and especially loved spending time with her family.
An informal walk-through visitation will be held 10 a.m.-12 noon on Monday, Feb 1, 2021, at the Buchanan & Cody Funeral Home in Jacksonville. A private family service will be held later, with burial at the Diamond Grove Columbarium.
