John Thomas Hanna, 81, of Ellisville, Mississippi, died Wednesday, January 20, 2021, at Gulfport Memorial Hospital in Gulfport, Mississippi. He was born Monday, December 18, 1939 in Laurel, Mississippi.

Visitation will be held on Friday, January 22, 2021, from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the West Ellisville Baptist Church in Ellisville, Mississippi. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, January 23, 2021 at 3:00 PM at West Ellisville Baptist Church and burial will follow in Ellisville City Cemetery. Bro. Jerry East and Dwight Smith will officiate. Ellisville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. (601) 477-3797

He proudly served in the US Air Force from 1958 to 1963. John loved and served his country with all of his heart but he loved and served our Lord and Savior more. John coached baseball for many years, helping to teach young men character, discipline, and teamwork, and never missed an opportunity to instill God into their lives. John taught high school boys Sunday school and strived to teach them how to be men of Godly stature. He also taught several other men's Sunday school classes where his life and theirs were enriched.

John was a businessman who worked in the parts business for several years prior to him joining in a business adventure that turned into a 40+ year career. He was part owner in Diesel Power with Mack Strickland and Parker McCurley.

John's passion was spending time with his Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren and he never missed an opportunity to show anyone pictures of them. John served as a deacon for many years at West Ellisville Baptist Church where he was a member for over 50 years. John served as a Gideon for over 20 years, his desire was that everyone would hear the gospel and come to know Jesus.

John lived his life by the following verse.
"Jesus said unto him I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father but by me." John 14:6

He was preceded in death by his wife, Gwennette Hanna; parents, James Bradley and Ethel OraNel Hanna; brother, James Bradley Hanna, Jr., twin brother, Don Lindsey Hanna.

Survivors include his daughter, Deanna Hanna, son, Brian Hanna, daughter, Stephanie Smith (Clayton), grandchildren, Hannah Smith Monday (Kris), Bradley Smith (Kelli), Mary Kathryn Hanna, John Isaac Hanna, Meagan Elizabeth Hanna, Preston Smith, great-grandchildren, Clayton Lewis Monday, Iva Renee Monday, Bentley Thomas Smith, brother, Preston Hanna (Jeannette), sister, Sarah Francis Campbell, sister-in-law, Beverly Kirkland (Joe) and a host of nieces and nephews, special friend and sweetheart, Marilyn Kelly.

Pallbearers will be Brian Hanna, John I. Hanna, Bradley Smith, Preston Smith, and Kris Monday.
