Bernice "Bece" Leuwer, 85, Bismarck, died May 16, 2008, under the care of her niece, Ann, and St. Alexius Hospice at Ann's home.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 20, at Bismarck Funeral Home with the Rev. Gene Lindemann officiating. Burial will be in St. Anthony Cemetery, Linton. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Bismarck Funeral Home with a rosary at 6:30 p.m. Visitation will continue on Tuesday, one hour prior to the service.

Bernice Leuwer was born Nov. 30, 1922, in Linton, to Anton and Emma (Wiese) Leuwer. She grew up and attended school in Linton, graduating from Linton High School in 1941. During her working years, she worked for several businesses in Linton and Bismarck, most notably the Shoe Mart in Bismarck where she was employed for many years, and also Benson's Optical and Finney Drug.

She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary and Emmons County Historical Society. She enjoyed bowling and reading.

Bernice always was ready for fun and had a plan of something fun to do. She could not have been more kind and loving to the children of the neighborhood. "Bece", as she was called, will always be remembered with love and fond memories by everyone who knew her.

She is survived by her two sisters, Lucille Gorman, Portland, Ore., and Fern Bauleke, LeSuer, Minn.; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Magdalena and Olivia Brown and Sasha, Jerome and Nicholas Hoffman.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Frances Hjelle; two brothers, Vincent Leuwer and Gene Leuwer; and three nephews, David Leuwer, Jesse Martin and Jonathan Leuwer.
