Dorothy Kartchner was born in Colonia Diaz, Chihuahua, Mexico September 13, 1908, the daughter of Nowlin Decatur and Ellen (Bodella) Kartchner.

In 1912, during the Poncho Villa Revolution, the Kartchners left Mexico along with their six children, Dorothy, Rhea, Nowlin D., Floyd, Millard and Prudence while sadly leaving a baby, Alzada, buried in Colonia Diaz. The Kartchner family stayed for sometime in the Gila Valley Arizona area with relatives then moved to Snowflake, Arizona where Martin W. was born. About 1917, the family homesteaded in Linden, Arizona making this their home where their last child, J. Hyrum was born.

Dorothy married James Franklin Worden May 1, 1929 in the Mesa Arizona Temple and had five children in Safford, Arizona. Frank Worden died in 1956 leaving Dorothy to finish raising the five children, which she took on with great zeal. In addition to working in a hardware store, Dorothy made candy of the very best quality and her Christmas candy was sought out by many who wanted a quality homemade candy. Dorothy willingly taught others her manner of making candy.

Dorothy was a feisty woman and stated her opinions freely. At the age of 91, she passed away in Safford, Arizona.

Loving wife of James Franklin Worden.
