Gertrude came to this country from Sweden when she was 3 years old with an older brother Alfred and her mother Christina Smith. She was then rejoined with her father who had came a year earlier.Then 3 more siblings were born. They all eventually settled in Beechtree. She married and settled in Westville were she lived the rest of her life. She had 5 children all boys, one of which (Howard) died as an infant.
