Melvin Ard, 89, Chanute, KS, died Monday, September 10, 2007, at Golden Living Center of Chase County in Cottonwood Falls, Kansas.
He was born April 22, 1918, in rural Elsmore, Kansas, to James G. and Pearl (Shelton) Ard.
He married Edith Daniels in 1947 at Iola, Kansas. They later divorced.
He joined the Army during World War II and was stationed in Alaska.
Survivors include a son, Alan Ard, of Iola, KS; three daughters and sons-in-law, Gail and Ronald Nurnberg, of Emporia, KS, Barbara and Basset Brittingham, of Highlands Ranch, CO, and Lori and Tim Blackwood, of Louisburg, KS; a sister, Joyce Mapp, of Elsmore, KS; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two great-grandchildren; and four brothers, Dewey, Curtis, Emerson, and Mervin Ard.
Burial was at Elsmore (KS)Cemetery.
