John Edward Hinton, age 78 of Shepherdsville, KY passed away unexpectedly on January 6, 2021 from complications of COVID. He was born on August 29, 1942, the son of the late William Vachel and Edna Rhodes Hinton of Axtel, KY.

He was the second oldest of 8 siblings. From an early age, he was a provider, known for baking cookies, working on the farm and he helped build the air strip at the lodge. John was an avid jokester. He dressed up a mannequin and placed her throughout town, was known to sneak potatoes in your pockets or a thumb in your sandwich. He had a talent for restoring tractors, rebuilding cars and enjoyed gardening. John retired from General Electric after 34.5 years.

Above all, he was a devoted family man. He was a kind and loving spouse to Kathy, his wife of 40 years. He was an amazing father to their 6 children: Mark, Kim, Robbie, Lucinda, Darrell and Pamela, who were the most important part of his life. He was a proud Papaw of 12 grandchildren: Kyle, Morgan, Brittany, Breanna, Dalton, Kiara, Alex, Savannah, Caleb, Madison, Noah and Jace. He cherished his great grandson Kaiden.

He was a parishioner of St. Aloysius in Shepherdsville, KY. John loved to talk, was the life of the party and never wanted you to leave. His smile lit up the room, he had the kindest heart and he was the happiest with a baby in his arms.

He was greeted at the Pearly Gates by his parents, brothers Friedell and Arnold, his grandparents, aunts and uncles.

In addition to his wife, children and grandchildren, John is survived by siblings: Von (Ed) Pendleton, Celest (Bonnie) Hinton, Lynn (John) Powers, Joyce (Danny) Geary and Tommy (Lisa) Hinton,. His sisters-in-law: Barbara Hinton and Joyce Hinton, as well as many nieces and nephews.

He will be deeply missed by family, friends and all who were lucky enough to know him.

Funeral services for John will be held at Trent-Dowell Funeral Home on Friday, January 15, 2020 at 1 PM central time. Visitation will be held from 10 AM - 1 PM central time. Burial will follow in the St. Anthony Cemetery.
