Eugene A. Gideon, Watertender First Class in the Navy, is seriously ill in the naval hospital at Mare Island, California, according to word received by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Al Gideon, E203 Fourth. Mr. Gideon left this morning for California to visit his son.
Young Gideon has been in the Navy five years and was at Pearl Harbor when the Japanese bombed installations there in 1941. The Gideons moved to Spokane from the Midwest about seven years ago.

A military funeral was held yesterday at Fort George Wright for Eugene A. Gideon, Watertender First Class, who died last week at the naval hospital at Mare Island, California. Interment was at Fort Wright Cemetery.
Gideon was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Al Gideon, E203 Fourth. He also is survived by a brother, James W. Gideon of Portland, Oregon; and four sisters, Mrs. Ernest Keith and Miss Mary Ellen Giden, both of Spokane; Mrs. John Kinsfather of Monmouth Oregon; and Mrs. Robert Haupt of Kelso, Washington.
Gideon had served in the Navy five years and was stationed at Pearl Harbor and in the South Pacific. He was attached to the U.S.S. Denver.
