Alexander Ramsey Nininger was born on October 18, 1880, in Saint Paul, Minnesota. He was the son of Alexander Ramsey and Mary Fay Mackubin Nininger.

He was the second of three sons. His eldest brother was Charles Mackubin Nininger; and his younger brother was Sigourney Fay Nininger.

Alexander Ramsey Nininger and Myrtle Craig were married on January 12, 1913, in Hall County, Georgia. She was born on December 9, 1895 in Georgia, and was the daughter of William H and Myrtle Craig. She may have been listed as Emily M Craig.

They had two children: Pauline Nininger and Alexander Nininger Jr.

In the 1920 Federal census, Alexander and Myrtle Nininger were living in Tampa, Florida. He was the manager of a theater.

Sometime around 1927 or so, they must have gotten a divorce. In the 1930 Federal census, Alexander Nininger, age 49, was living in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, with his wife Gertrude Nininger, age 48 (nee Stockbridge; first marriage Weygant); her son John S Weygank(SIC) age 27; Pauline Nininger age 16; and Alexander R Nininger, age 11. Alexander Nininger Sr was working as a theater manager.

On July 1, 1934, Pauline Button Nininger and Jacob Taylor Patterson were married at St David’s Church, in New York, New York.

Alexander and Gertrude Nininger were living in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, in the 1940 Federal census. He was still working as a manager in a theater. Gertrude’s son Jack Weygant, age 38, was living with them.

On January 12, 1942, 1LT Alexander Ramsey Nininger Jr was killed in battle in the Philippines. He was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor on January 29, 1942. Lt Nininger's mother was listed in articles as Mrs. Myrtle Willard of New York. Research has shown that Mrs. Willard died in June 1973 and is buried with her parents at Alta Vista Cemetery, Gainesville, Georgia.

According to his obituary, published in the Fort Lauderdale News on July 29, 1958, Alexander Ramsey Nininger died that morning at Broward General Hospital. He had suffered a stroke in April 1958.

He was born in St Paul, Minnesota, and had sung opera with the San Francisco Opera Company for a number of years. He had traveled the world with the company as a bass singer. However, after suffering from laryngitis on a trip to Canada, he lost his voice and turned instead to the profession of managing theaters.

After retirement, he worked with the youth and wrote articles for different magazines. He was active in the Rotary Club and the Dad’s Club at Fort Lauderdale High School.

He was survived by his spouse Gertrude Nininger; daughter Mrs. Pauline Kresge (Conrad Kresge) of Providence, Rhode Island; two stepsons Jack and Theodore Weygant; ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

According to the obituary published in the Miami Herald on July 30, 1958, his funeral was held at the Fannin Funeral Home chapel on July 31, 1958.
