Betty Jean Stewart was born on Tuesday, June 25, 1940 in Crockett, Texas to Floyd and Bessie Mae Stewart. She married Earnest Lee Jackson of Crockett Texas on May 20, 1960. To their union Earnest and Betty had seven children. Earnest and Betty moved their family to Vernon, Texas in 1967. Earnest passed on Sunday, April 11, 1999.
Betty has always had a niche for cooking. Betty found joy in cooking and providing for others. Upon moving to Vernon, Texas Betty worked at the Vernon Inn as a cook. Working at the Vernon Inn provided an opportunity for Betty to pursue her dream and vision of owning/operating her own restaurant. Betty was able to accomplish this when the Vernon Inn was later changed and renamed Betty‘s Restaurant. Betty owned and operated her business for several years. In September 2005 Betty suffered health issues that caused her to be unable to operate her restaurant. Betty’s Restaurant remained open until June 2006. Betty took pride in everything that she did. Betty was very well known in the community. Betty was the type of person who would give you the shirt off her back. Betty often stated she strived to help others stating “I want to help others because one day if any of my children needed something I would hope someone would help them”. Betty always made you feel welcome when you stepped foot in her restaurant and her home. Betty never met a stranger and loved to socialize. She loved sports, especially the Dallas Cowboys! Betty definitely enjoyed riding around town going to Allsup‘s and Grocery Sack buying scratch off lottery tickets. Betty occasionally like to sneak off across the river to go to the casino.
On Wednesday, January 6, 2021 Betty departed from this earth and entered into eternity in Vernon Texas surrounded by her family.
Betty leaves the following left to cherish her memories: Three daughters Patricia Jackson, Carla Jackson and Jacqueline Owens all of Vernon, Texas. Two sons Anthony Jackson, Vernon, Texas and Cedric Stewart of Livingston, Texas.
One brother, Floyd Stewart Jr. of Fayetteville, North Carolina.
Betty also had three stepchildren Donald Ray Hamilton of Lovelady Texas, Earnest Lee Jackson Junior of Crockett, Texas and Johnnie Mae Randolph of Trinity, Texas.
Betty also leaves a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren whom she adored and thought the world of dearly.
Betty preceded in death by her parents Floyd and Bessie Mae Stewart, her husband Earnest, her son Floyd L. Jackson, her daughter Phyllis J. Amos.
Betty preceded in death by her siblings as followed: Floydie Mae Stewart, Jessie Mae Mass, Jane Paul, Clara Hicks, Florence Johnson, Sammie Stewart and Jerry Stewart.
Graveside services will be Saturday, January 16, 2021 at 11:00 am at Jiel-Huntley Cemetery in Crockett, Texas under the direction of Sullivan Funeral Home.
Visitation will be Thursday January 14, 2021 at 6:00 pm at Calvary Baptist Church
