Delbert Oberteuffer, professor emeritus of physical education at Ohio State University, died last Thursday in Hyannis, Mass. Dr. Oberteuffer, a resident of East Orleans, Mass., was 79 years old.

He taught at Ohio State from 1932 to 1966, and was head of the men's physical education department for 25 years.

He was the author of a basic textbook, ''Physical Education,'' and co-author of another, entitled ''School Health Education.'' He edited the Journal of School Health from 1959 to 1973.

Dr. Oberteuffer, who was born in Portland, Ore., received a bachelor's degree from the University of Oregon and a Master of Arts and Doctor of Philosophy degree from Columbia University.

He was a past president of the American School Health Association and the College Physical Education Association. He is survived by his wife, Katharine, and a son, Theodore K. Oberteuffer of Tampa, Fla.
