Willie Mae Boyer was born at Rayville, Louisiana on April 25, 1925 to the late Albert Ponder and Dois McCarty Ponder. She passed away peacefully at the West Monroe Guest House in West Monroe, Louisiana on January 6, 2021. Along with her parents Ms. Boyer is preceded in death by her husband, T. C. Boyer; brothers, Douglas Ponder and Johnny Ponder, USMC; and son-in-law, Gary Powell.
Ms. Willie Mae Boyer was a devoted member of the Bastrop Church of Christ and a retired L.P.N. with over 25 years of service at the former Summerlin Lane Nursing Home. An avid gardener, she loved raising flowers and a vegetable garden. She was known for her prized daylillies and bountiful harvest of turnip greens each year. She was proud to be able to grow, cook, and can many jars of fruits and vegetables for her family through the years. Ms. Boyer will be forever loved by her family and friends.
Ms. Boyer is survived by her daughters, Sheila Stamper and husband Gary Walker Stamper and Pam Montgomery and husband Gene Montgomery; four grandchildren, Shane Yates and wife Kim, Preston Yates, Tracy Powell and wife Denise, and Carol Perry and husband Benjy; and four great-grandchildren, Emmy Yates, Luke Powell, Cole Perry, and Hunter Perry. She is also survived by her sister, Joy Storey; brother, Jimmy Ponder and wife Glenda; sister-in-law, Frances Ponder; numerous nieces and nephews; and her extended family at Bastrop Church of Christ.
A time of visitation with the family will begin at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, January 10, 2021 at the Bastrop Church of Christ followed by funeral services at 2:00 p.m. at the church. Committal services and burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Cox Funeral Home of Bastrop.
Serving as pallbearers are Shane Yates, Preston Yates, Scott Stamper, Benjy Perry, Cole Perry, and Hunter Perry. Honorary pallbearer will be Tracy Powell.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude and apprecitation to the nurses and staff at the West Monroe Guest House for their dedicated care and compassion shared with Ms. Boyer during her residence.
