SKETCH OF LIFE OF JACKSON LEAVERTON
Jackson Leaverton, son of Charles and Mary Leaverton, was born in Stark County, Ill., on January 29, 1855.
When he was three years old, he with his parents moved to Princeville township in Peoria county.
Mr. Leaverton was united in marriage to Ellen F. Armstrong on December 19, 1879.
During the pastorate of Rev. Morgan about 31 years, he was converted and united with the White's Grove Baptist church and of him it may be truly said that he has ever since been a faithful member. He took a special interest in the Sunday school and at the time of his death was the teacher of the bible class.
Mr. Leaverton was always ready to give help to his neighbors and many of the people of this community give testimony of his kindly interest.
He was deeply interested in his work of farming and not only worked with his hands but studied to make his land productive. At the time of his death he was a director in the Farm Bureau Association in Peoria County.
Mr. Leaverton was of a retiring disposition and in a quiet, unostentatious way gave help to such movements as he thought would prove beneficial to men.
On Nov. 25th, he was taken ill and later pneumonia developed which resulted in his death on December 11th, at 8 p.m., at the age of 62 years, 10 months and 12 days.
He leaves to mourn his departure his wife, children and grandchildren and three brothers in Nodway Co., Mo. and a host of friends.
The funeral services were held on Friday at the White's Grove Baptist church, conducted by pastor Rev. W. E. Anderson, assisted by a former pastor, Rev. Jones. Burial was in the Princeville cemetery.
