William Belford was born in Kickapoo township, Peoria county, Illinois, October 8, 1837, and died at his home north of Brimfield Tuesday, April 6, 1909, having thus spent his entire life in the county of his birth. His parents were among the earliest settlers in this part of the state and the family occupied a prominent place in the social affairs and in the settlement of this new country.
In 1891 Mr. Belford was united in marriage to Miss Ellen McKune. Two children were born to this union, Mary, now seventeen years of age, and George, aged eleven, who with the wife are left to mourn the loss of a kind and indulgent husband and father. Mr. Belford was the eldest of three brothers and a sister. He devoted his time to farming and operating farm machinery for many years, but had lately retired from active life. He was successful in his work and left a comfortable competency to his family. He was honest and upright in his dealings with his fellow man, a true friend and good neighbor, ever ready to do a kindly act for those in need. In the operation of farm machinery he became widely known all over this section and made many friends by whom he was held in highest esteem.
The funeral services were held on Thursday, at the Monica M. E. church at 1 o'clock, conducted by the pastor, Rev. James Bliss. The remains were laid to rest in the Princeville cemetery.
