Obituary for Helen Jean Mahoney

Helen Jean Mahoney, 87, of Martinsburg, passed peacefully on Sunday, January 3, 2021 at Berkeley Medical Center.

Born September 18, 1933 in Berkeley County, WV, she was the daughter of the late Filmore and Sarah Catherine Mason Canby.

She was a member of the Church of God and attended Westview Baptist Church.

She is survived by two sons, Tommy Wayne Wall and Roxy Custer, and Brian Mahoney; two daughters, Donna Wall and, Ralph Aguirre, and Debbie Wetzel, all of Martinsburg; five grandchildren, Donald “D.J”, and Laura Bayer, Katherine Dorsey, Justin Wetzel, and Gavin Mahoney all of Martinsburg; six great-grandchildren, Alijah Bayer-Harding, Althea, and Cassidy Bayer, Kayleigh, Serenity, and Braxton; and one sister, Hester Manning.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Mahoney; six brothers, Melvin, Bruce, Paul, Elmer, Filmore, Jr., and James; one sister, Isabelle Jacobs; and a great grandchild, Cayla Bayer.

The Brown Funeral Home will only be open for family to receive friends only from the hours of 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM on Thursday, January 7, 2021, with funeral service to follow at 2:00 PM with Pastor Chuck Donivan officiating. Visitors will be required to wear face masks, practice social distancing, and follow directives. Interment will be in Tuscarora Presbyterian Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Panhandle, 330 Hospice Lane, Kearneysville, WV, 25430, C-CAP/Loaves & Fishes, 336 South Queen Street, Martinsburg, WV, 25401, and Shenandoah Women’s Center, 236 West Martin Street, Martinsburg, WV, 25401.
