After the war, Nehemiah again relocated, this time to Kansas. On 26 December, 1867 he married Nancy Bell "Nannie" Ashcraft in Mt. Pleasant Township, Atchison County, Kansas. She was only 17, the daughter of Jeddiah and Barbara Miller Ashcraft. She was born in Larue County, Kentucky and moved with her family to Kansas Territory as a child.
The children of Nehemiah and Nannie included: William H., John H., Albert Jedediah, Charles M., Dana Clyde, Alice L. and Frank.
Nannie died 10 May 1882, and her last child, Frank, died a month later, leaving Nehemiah with six children.
He married a second time on 15 Sep 1884, to Harriet B. "Hattie" Persinger. Harriet was the daughter of Benjamin and Martha Persinger. Nehemiah and Hattie moved to Kansas City, Kansas (Wyandotte County) and were parents of Minnie Eva and Jesse Lewis.
Nehemiah died in Kansas City, Kansas, on 9 Dec 1894, at the age of 53. He is buried at Ashcraft Cemetery in Mt. Pleasant Township, Atchison County, Kansas. This is the family cemetery of his first wife, Nannie, and he is buried there near her and their infant son, Frank.
