Minnie Ruth Thorn Wallbrown, 96, of Parkersburg passed away Feb. 1, 2006, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital. She was born in Palestine, Wirt County, W.Va., on June 26, 1909, a daughter of the late George W. and Martha Alice Smith Thorn. She moved to Parkersburg in 1926 and worked at the Silk Mill in Vienna and Viscose in Parkersburg. She was a member of the Stout Memorial United Methodist Church, formerly the Phelps Memorial Methodist Church, where she was Sunday school director. She was currently a member of the Bible Baptist Church of Parkersburg. She was a member of the Auxiliary of the Union Mission and was privileged to visit the Union Mission Bowery in New York City. She also visited the Holy Lands, where she crossed the Sea of Galilee and visited the Dead Sea and the Jordon River. She is survived by several nieces and nephews; a special niece, Pauline Lockhart, who lived with her; and Charles Stewart, whom she was very grateful for the many things he helped her with and for being such a good friend. Ruth's wish was that those that she came into contact with meet her in Heaven. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cloyd H. Wallbrown; an infant son, Wallace; five brothers; and three sisters. Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg, with the Revs. Daniel Stephens and Robert May officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery North. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. today and one hour prior to the service Friday at the funeral home.
