Margaret was a daughter of Samuel Tye and Hannah J. Morden. On November 18, 1891 in Enosburgh, Franklin County, Vermont she was married to Amos W. Sampson (also spelled Samson), a son of Denis Samson and Martha Ann Forsyth. Amos was a veteran of the U.S. Civil War and a one-time carpenter in Alaska. He was a native of Vermont but had lived with his parents in Ontario in 1861. His father had been a commercial merchant and a woolen manufacturer. Amos had two children and had already been married thrice when he married Maggie.
