Geraldine Theresa Hodapp was born in Granville, Iowa on November 4, 1929 to Ben and Johanna (Mousel) Plathe. She was the youngest of seven children. She was baptized and made her 1st Communion and was confirmed at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Granville, IA. She attended country school through the 8th grade.
On August 3, 1948 Geraldine was united into marriage to Conrad Hodapp in Granville, IA where they farmed. In 1958, they moved to Canby, MN and farmed North of Canby. In 1984, she moved into town. On October 26, 2020 she moved in Sylvan Court. She is a member of St. Peters Catholic Church.
Geraldine had many jobs over the years. She raised cucumbers to pay for her new car. It was a family operation including a creeper machine so we could sit or lie down and pick pickles. She also worked in the turkey plant in Marshall. She owned and operated Geraldine’s Place, north of Canby. She was a custodian for the Canby Public School and bartended at the Canby Liquor Store. Geraldine also cleaned houses for numerous years.
She loved to eat out, especially at Rusty’s Café in Taunton, MN. She enjoyed playing cards and board games. She was famous for her chocolate chip cookies. Anyone that did something special for her could almost count on an ice-cream pail of chocolate chip cookies.
Geraldine died in her sleep on December 30, 2020 at Sylvan Court Nursing Home in Canby, MN at the age of 91 years, 1 month and 26 days.
Grateful for having shared her life are her 11 children: Donna (Ron Overson) Karlo, Monroe, SD , Danny ( Mary Kay) Hodapp, Corning, IA, Mary Citrowske, Lakewood, CO, Terry (Steve Fettig)Hodapp, Citrus Heights, CA, Rosemary (Jim) Sand, Cold Spring, MN, Sharon(Randy) Citrowske, Dawson, MN , David (Sandy) Hodapp, Cecilia, KY , Lori (Pete) Johnson, River Falls, WI , Cindy(Richard) Brown, Maple Grove, MN, Marvin(Teresa Davenport)Hodapp, St. Cloud, MN and Ronda(Larry) Duis, Canby, MN; 35 grandchildren, 51 great-grandchildren, and 9 great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents; one son, Bruce in 1984; one grandson, Ross; sons-in-law, Albinus Citrowske and John Karlo and 3 brothers and 3 sisters.
