Survivors include his wife, Ethel B. Burns of Edwards; two sons, John Horace Burns Jr. of Jackson and Charles B. Burns of Florence; a sister, Zenobia B. Flynt of Memphis, Tenn.; and two grandchildren.
He was a member of First Congregational Methodist Church.
