Wanda Ilene Estes, 81 years old of Mobeetie, Texas, went to be with the Lord on Monday, December 28, 2020 in Mobeetie, Texas.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, December 31, 2020 at the Mobeetie Cemetery in Mobeetie, Texas with Rusty Early and Sheryl Estes, officiating.
Arrangements are by Robertson Funeral Directors of Wheeler.
Wanda was born on June 13, 1939 in Shattuck, Oklahoma, to Tim and Helen Cockrell. She grew up in and attended school in Durham, Oklahoma. She was the salutatorian and played basketball. After graduating from Draughon's Business College in ’58, she then married Gordon Estes on April 20, 1958 in Amarillo, Texas, where they lived together until 1967. They moved to Mobeetie, Texas, in October of ’67 where they have resided until present day.
Wanda attended and taught Sunday school at the Mobeetie First United Methodist Church for many years and proudly identified as a Christian. She served on the Mobeetie City Council and as the Interim Mayor of Mobeetie. Wanda enjoyed supporting and attending her children and grandchildren’s sports events and extra curricular activities. She worked on the family farm raising a variety of animals. She was an excellent cook and loved to cook for her family. Wanda enjoyed a good competitive game of cards. She enjoyed gardening and was known for her beautiful flowers and yard.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Tim and Helen Cockrell; 4 brothers, Leo Cockrell, Dale Cockrell, Donald Cockrell, Glen Cockrell; and 2 children, Stanley Eugene Estes and Melody Ilene Estes.
Survivors include her husband, Gordon Estes; her sister, Melba Higgins of Amarillo; 4 children, Greg Estes and wife, Diane of Mobeetie, Texas, Sheryl Estes of Austin, Texas, Ray Estes of New Mexico, and Jennifer Moore and husband James of Amarillo, Texas; 13 Grandchildren, Amber Grider and husband, Josh, of Decatur, Texas, Ashley Bailey and husband, Stephen, of Iowa Colony, Texas, Savannah Estes of Mobeetie, Texas, Hailey Johnson and husband, Blake, of Amarillo, Texas, Bailey Alonzo and husband, John, of Lubbock, Texas, Stormy Estes and wife, Jenny, of Pampa, Texas, Amanda Estes of Pampa, Texas, Spencer Estes and wife, Ximena of Pampa, Texas, Skylar Estes of Pampa, Texas, Sammy Estes of Dallas, Texas, Brianna Ray of Amarillo, Texas, Courtney Ray of Amarillo, Texas, and Zachary Ray and wife, Ashley, of Amarillo, Texas; 10 Great Grandchildren, Blaze Grider, Holt Grider, Harper Bailey, Elianah Estes, Jacob Estes, Sabrina Estes, Spencer Estes, Jr., Girasol Estes, Willow Alonzo, and Hunter Ray.
