Leo passed away on Tuesday, November 14, 2017 at his home in Florissant, MO.
He is survived by his son Dennis; daughter-in-law, Peggy Cockrell of Snohomish, WA; granddaughters, Denise Cockrell of Phoenix, AZ and Julianne Cockrell of Chicago, IL; sister Melba Higgins of Amarillo TX, brother Glen Cockrell of Durham OK, and sister Wanda Estes of Mobeetie TX. Along with his parents, he is also preceded in death by his wife Carol Cockrell, son Craig Cockrell, brother Dale Cockrell and brother Donald Cockrell.
Leo grew up on a wheat farm raising cattle that was interrupted during the dust bowl, in the summers his family did wheat combining starting in Texas and finishing in Colorado. He graduated from Pan Handle A&M in 1952 with a degree in Math and Physics. He held the record for the highest grade point average for over 10 years. He taught high school math and science in Canadian TX for one year before being drafted.
Leo and Carol were married on October 17, 1953, in St. Louis, MO. Leo at that time was in the U. S. Army and stationed at Ft. Leonard Wood MO. After Leos discharge in 1954, Leo and Carol lived in St. Louis until 1956. In 1956 McDonnell Douglas Aircraft Company transferred Leo and Carol to Alamogordo, NM. In 1960 Leos work brought them back to Missouri where he has lived in Florissant until his death.
After working at McDonnell Douglas for 40 years he retired and enjoyed gardening and following the St. Louis Cardinals.
A Memorial Service will be held in April 2018 at Silent Home in Roll OK where he will be laid to rest along with his wife and son.
