Fran was born April 7, 1934 in Blairstown, MO. She was the oldest child born to Rosa and Honus Mansfield. Her mother was a single parent of three children after losing her husband in World War II. Fran graduated from Clinton High School, attended business college in K.C., MO, received her GRI credentials in Topeka, KS and enjoyed additional education interests at Washburn University in Topeka, KS.

Frances married Lee A. Wastell on June 4, 1954 and they raised three daughters together. Their union ended and within a few years she met her soul mate Louis Guth. They married May 17, 1981 and shared 32 years together. He preceded her in death on September 27, 2013. This marriage brought two families together with eight children total.

Fran’s life was diverse in so many ways. She was a career woman and involved in numerous affiliations throughout her business life; she was a member of Eastern Star, Million Dollar Club in her real estate company, American Business Women’s Assoc. and Chamber of Commerce in Topeka, KS. She and Louis owned “Guth’s Wine and Spirits” and “Coffee Lovers” in Topeka, KS. After retirement she continued to be active by donating time and energy to the Clinton Senior Center, Clinton Historical Museum, local Hospice chapter and her social group “Red Hat Club”.

Fran lived overseas in two countries in South America from 1968-1971. Fran was an ESL teacher for adults at the University of Guayaquil, Ecuador. She believed this experience of learning a new language and cultures gave her a greater appreciation and pride in being an American citizen. Fran loved to entertain and enjoyed cooking from scratch. She often developed many of her recipes. Her personal interests were bell collecting, embroidery hand work, reading mystery novels and attending auctions. She frequently attended services at Holy Rosary Church with her husband Louis.

Fran believed in running a tight ship as she juggled being a mother and career woman. Her blended family of additional children further enriched her life. Fran was dedicated to her beloved Louis, her eight children, 25 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren with three more on the way.

Fran is survived by her three daughters; Debra “Lee” Wastell (John) Hill; Jeannie Denise (Doug) Maryott and Diantha Allene (Don) Voge. In addition, her step-children: Cindy Hrenchir, Annette (Gary) Morgan, Chris (Craig) Mack, Louis Guth, and Lori (Eric) Stevenson. Fran is also survived by her brother George (Karon) Mansfield. Preceded in death by her parents, spouse, a sister and a grandson.

Our family wishes to thank all the compassionate staff at Neuvant House East in Lawrence, KS. She shared her last year of life with this new community of residents. Our thanks also to the VNA of Lawrence who provided additional support through the hospice program. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: The Clinton Senior Center-Building Fund.
