RUTH MARGARET THACKERY
July 20, 1919 - December 10, 2020

Ruth Margaret Thackery, 101, was born July 20, 1919 and passed away on Thursday, December 10, 2020 at St. Andrews in Batesville. She came into this world when women did not yet have the right to vote and lived to a time when women are elected to some of the highest offices in the land. She often marveled at how much the world had changed over the course of her life. She spent all of her life in Ripley and Decatur counties, except for World War II when she accompanied her husband to Chicago, Norfolk, and San Diego during his naval service and later in life she spent many Christmas seasons with her daughter and son-in-law in Petaluma, California.

She worked for many years in Decatur County Schools and loaned lunch money to any student who looked like they might need it. She also worked at the Union Furniture Company, Romweber, and the Herald Tribune in Batesville. She was a life-long member and sometimes pianist of St. Paul's Lutheran Church at Crossroads. She was a devout gardener and an avid fisherman and was excited to catch the biggest fish of her life at age 96. She was a habitual reader and library regular. One of her greatest joys was spending time with her two grandsons.

She was preceded in death by her husband Oscar Thackery, her daughter Nola Wolf, her sister Norma Klostermeyer, and her niece Opal Meyer. She is survived by her sons, Terry (Hope) Thackery of Springboro, Ohio and Tom (Jen) Thackery of Mahtowa, Minnesota; her grandsons, Joe (Fernanda) and Will, her son-in-law Chuck Wolf of Petaluma, California, and her niece Etherl Ollier of Batesville.

No public viewing or service is scheduled at this time, due to the pandemic. There will be a memorial service for Ruth in late-spring or summer 2021 which will be announced through St. Paul's Lutheran Church.

In lieu of flowers, her family requests that donations be made to the Batesville Food Pantry.
