Daniel Brinduse
July 15, 1923 - August 3, 2018
Daniel Brinduse, 95, lifelong Anderson resident, died Aug. 3, 2018, at The Legacy at Bethany Pointe.
Dan was born on July 15, 1923, in Anderson, the son of John and Vera (Popa) Brinduse.
He was a 1941 graduate of Anderson High School and served during World War II in the United States Army and was awarded a Silver Star, Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Combat and Expert Infantry Badge, and the French Legion of Honor.
He was employed by the United States Postal Service for 34 years, retiring 1978, as a postmaster in Fairmount. Following his retirement he was employed by the Davisson Law Offices for several years. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Anderson, where he started the Busy Beavers Sunday school class for special needs children, and the Madison County Stamp Club. He was also instrumental in starting the Richland Township Volunteer Fire Department.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth Shinness Brinduse, who he married July 19, 2003; daughter, Carol Grace of Anderson; son, Jerry (Jadd) Brinduse of Caneyville, Kentucky; three stepchildren, David Shinness of Canada, Roger Shinness of Carmel, and Molly Estabrook of Anderson; four grandchildren, Eric (Heather) James and Erin James of Texas, Jason Brinduse of Kentucky and Jennifer Brinduse of California; and several beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews in the extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Barbara J. (Shaw) Brinduse; 11 siblings, Flora, Vasalie, Ana, John Jr., Matthew, Joseph, Anne, Olivia "Lee", Paul, Ruth and Mary; and a stepson, Tom Shinness.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Aug. 9, 2018, at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church, 907 N. Raible Ave., Anderson, officiated by Dr. Art Jaggard. Burial will take place in East Maplewood Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service and Thursday one hour prior to the funeral at the church.
Memorial contributions may be given to I.U. Research Center for Alzheimer's, Richland Township Volunteer Fire Department, or First Baptist Church.

Now I would like to add a personal witness. Dan Brinduse was one of the world's best good guys. He and my dad, Virgil McAllister, were friends from their work together at the Anderson Post Office and I had the privilege of interviewing Dan for the National Veterans Historical Archive. It was clear that Dan saw heavy action in his service with the 44th Division during World War II.
A few weeks after we interviewed Dan I received an email from Mary Ann Kurey whose Uncle Frederick N. Bard is buried in Mt. Union, PA. Mary Ann was wondering if I might have any information on his service in World War II. One thing led to another and it was discovered that he had served in the 44th. I looked through my records to see if we had interviewed anyone from that division and sure enough there was Dan's interview.
I called Dan to see if he knew Fred Bard and Dan told me that he was holding Fred as he was dying from wounds suffered in an artillery barrage.
